This unresearched medallion or I.D. disk appears to be from East Germany, stamped during the Cold War. The symbol, the "Reichsadler", or "Imperial Eagle", was the National Insignia, and is a "carry over" from WWII German history. The raised letter "M" and the numbers "9/86" are clearly visible below the symbol. This could mean "Sept. of 1986" or something else. Not sure. (any officianados out there that know more than myself, feel free to contact me).
On the reverse side are the German words; Geheime(r) Staatspolizei. Translated means: "Secret state Police". Below the words there is a raised, blank bar that could be inscribed with a name or serial number.
Approx. 2" long. There is a small hole punched in one end that would allow the medallion to be hung around the neck or attached to a key chain, or tacked to a board.
$35.00 cash & carry.
